Trade level, mastery and permanent improvements

Improve the whole trade without confusing it with practice at one job.

Trade level unlocks work

The trade level is the broad skill requirement shown on a job or piece of equipment. Work awards its declared trade XP under the applicable success rules. Combat techniques can divide gains differently among combat trades.

Mastery belongs to an individual job. A high Logging level does not mean that every timber job has high mastery. Some campaign delivery and care work deliberately grants no skill XP or mastery.

The shared mastery pool

Mastery work also contributes to the trade’s shared practice pool where that system applies. Checkpoint bonuses depend on the pool’s current filled proportion. Spending pool XP can drop the pool below a checkpoint and remove its bonus.

Each trade page lists its checkpoint descriptions, and each job lists its particular mastery rules. Bonuses differ: some affect doubling, preservation, success, interval, quantities or secondary finds. Do not apply one trade’s milestone rules to every job.

Other permanent improvements

Surveying observations, tool upgrades, permanent discoveries and public works can improve particular activities. An offer with a person’s name may represent a discovery or service rather than a person being bought; inspect its actual description and effect.

Use the live work quote to compare a planned improvement. Static base values in this wiki are deliberately not personalized to your equipment, pool, discovered bonuses or civic state.
